GOLDEN MONKEY

When planning our road trip through Uganda it was clear for us, that we cannot miss the Golden monkeys. They only live in the Virunga Massive (Uganda, Ruanda, DRC) and there are only two fully habituated groups so far, one in Ruanda and one in Uganda. So, there we went, to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, on one of the worst roads we have ever driven (thanks to Google Maps). But luckily, we had a 4x4 and arrived save and sound. Early next morning we started our track. We walked through the forest and were rewarded with breathtaking views. After around two hours we reached the Bamboo Zone, the natural habitat of the Golden Monkeys. It didn’t take long until we saw our first one. But then the real challenge began – taking a good picture. The monkeys were moving a lot, there was too much foliage all around covering their faces and the light condition was more than challenging. The hour we were allowed to spend with the primates passed by in a flash. Even more rewarding was the feeling, when looking at the pictures at home and finding some shots you are really satisfied with!
